I see her there, staring back at me
eighteen, young and brave
eager eyes full of purpose and hope
ready to take on the world, full force
so determined, so stubborn
so ready to drink in life and love
heart full of longing
head full of dreams
such a tender age
flaunting youth and beauty
a gentle smile upon her face
I long to tell her things,
things she thinks she knows
I long to guide her
protect her, warn her
“guard your heart above all”
But she can’t hear me
she wouldn’t listen anyway
she already knows
she can take care of herself
don’t I know it’s all ok?
I feel she is mocking me
why must she come and visit me,
here in the bathroom mirror?

I saw the same girl you did from the first words, because I still see her. She is still there, just as vibrant. Open your spoken heart like you do in your writing, and invite in the world. 🙂

Oh … that ending … it caught me by surprise.
I thought you were talking of someone else … I thought …never mind what I thought actually..
Guard your heart yes … but she wont’…she has not. In the end dear friend…. there has been goodness from it I believe…I know.
So, do not tell the mirror past…it cannot listen. And if the mirror present has the ability to listen …temper in the telling.
*hugs* …

Oh Katie… *hugs back*… no I cannot tell the mirror past, but I can tell the mirror present… she has to learn to guard her heart without locking it away….
