Dark Poetry… Violence Within

This is a poem that was written back around the end of 2012 / beginning of 2013. It was put together after I had joined a poetry group and the challenge was to reveal the darker side of ourselves…. which it definitely did. The poem has been edited a few times, and this may not even be the final version, but I thought I would share as I have been under much stress the last while and am relating to my dark side a bit more than I may care to admit… (I have also included a Haiku and Tanka version of the poem below.)

Violence Within

There is VIOLENCE within me
Deep inside
Seething
Fierce
Surging
Roiling
Clawing its way to the surface

Growling
Spit and fury
Menacing

fuck, Fuck, FUCK, FUCK
LEAVE.ME.ALONE!!!

A caged animal
Panicky
Pacing back and forth

Agitated
Angry

Back and forth
Eyes closed
Back and forth
Tears shed
Back and forth
Can’t-stop-moving
Trapped!

Not one thing
Ev’rything
Small things stacked
…one on top another

Fee-ding it
Not enough
Never enough

Deep inside
…Hungry

Never satiated
Tidbits here and there
Always hungry

Back and forth
Back and forth
Leering through iron bars

Just leave the cage unlocked
Begging
Howling
Pleading
Clawing at the bars

Something inside ME might SNAP!

Back and forth
Back and forth

Release me!!
FUCKING. RE-LEASE.ME!!

Back and forth
Back and forth

Stuck behind the iron bars of my will

Here are two short versions of the poem:
Haiku:

The violence within
Seethes, fierce, hunger deep within
Pacing back and forth

Tanka:

The violence within
Panicky, hungry, seething
Pacing back and forth
Eyes closed, tears shed, can’t stop
Trapped behind the iron bars

  1. The poem morphs …as you need it to?

*does not try to make you think you should not again post this* …. sometimes you need to get the feelings out.

Just know … tis temporary this feeling ok. … * and gives you a hug*

    And … let Amber push *S* …

  4. Oh and I remember this well and the comments made – you had unleashed a side we had not seen and I have seen some changes as you say. Nothing wrong with writing dark as long as we aren’t ‘in it’ too deeply. x
